Is remaining a blogger more about vanity, than the desire to blog?

As YouTube takes up more and more of my life, and my blog seems to take up less and less, I can’t help but wonder, is remaining a blogger more about vanity, rather than the desire to blog?

I’ve been blogging since 2006, though it wasn’t until 2012 that I really started blogging with any kind of frequency and really started to gain a following. At the time, I was in my early twenties, and daily blogging had become a way for me to really ramp up the production of my blog posts, into something more akin to a job, and I loved it. Until I didn’t. Towards the end of the year, it was more often than not a struggle, but I managed to keep it going. Then, I blogged sporadically for another year, by which I mean, one or two posts throughout 2013, and then slightly more throughout 2014-15, until I eventually decided to attempt to make my blog more of a focus again around 2016.

This, sort of worked. It was still a struggle, and it wasn’t until 2017 where I was blogging with any kind of frequency again (3x a week), though this didn’t last for more than a few months either before YouTube devoured my consciousness and suddenly I was no longer doing much writing of any kind. I’ve long considered my blog a way for me to communicate with fellow writers, and readers, a way for me to communicate with anyone who will listen frankly. But in a world where I only blog twice a week, is there really any point to keeping it up? Or is it just a futile effort to make it seem as though I am working more than I am?

I still love blogging. I love being able to share my thoughts through writing. It’s still a completely different medium than YouTube, and writing is still my greatest love, (even if we’re not on speaking terms these days), still, what is my blog about in this odd future where I’m not even sure what I’m about anymore. As I fast approach 26, I realize that a lot has changed for me this past year. I’ve grown more throughout 2017 than I had for a long time, I made it a point to push myself outside of my comfort zone, and worked to be more positive overall (which frankly is an ongoing effort on my part).

I don’t really know what the future is going to hold for me with regards to this blog. I can’t honestly imagine myself stopping, but then, I couldn’t have imagined myself doing YouTube previously and yet, here we are.

  1. [ Smiles ] Oh, you are experiencing a bit of conflict.

I will present you with a suggestion; one that will dissolve the conflict.

Since you a have both a YouTube channel and a blog, you can blog about your YouTube channel. Create an article telling people how they can create a YouTube channel of their own and the type of equipment that they would need.

    1. Thank you for your response. I will definitely take that idea under consideration. I realize that I am overthinking the situation incredibly, but definitely your idea is something that I could try. So thank you 🙂
